Crispy Carrot Patties

Ingredients

Patties

  • 100 g oat flakes
  • 125 ml hot water for soaking oats
  • 3–4 carrots finely grated
  • to taste salt
  • to taste ground black pepper
  • ½  teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1  teaspoon garlic powder

For Frying And Coating

  • to taste vegetable oil for frying
  • to taste breadcrumbs for coating the patties

Instructions

  • Soak the oats just long enough to soften without turning them into porridge, as you need structure for the patties.
  • Grate the carrots finely to help them cook quickly and blend smoothly with the oats.
  • Season the mixture thoughtfully, tasting a small portion if you wish to adjust salt and spices before shaping all the patties.
  • Shape the patties with calm, firm hands, pressing gently to create compact pieces that will not crumble in the pan.
  • Coat the patties evenly in breadcrumbs to ensure a consistent crunch on every side.
  • Keep the frying temperature low to medium‑low so the patties cook through without burning the crust.
  • Turn the patties only when the underside is golden and firm, as moving them too early can cause breakage.
  • Drain the cooked patties on paper towels to remove excess oil and preserve their crispness.
  • Serve the patties warm for the best texture, as they are most enjoyable when the crust is freshly crisp.
  • Experiment with simple dips or sauces to complement the patties and turn them into a more complete snack or light meal.

Notes

These Crispy Carrot Patties With Oat Crust And Golden Pan Fry are the kind of snack that makes you feel quietly proud of your own  cooking, even if you are just starting out. You take simple ingredients—oat flakes, grated carrots and a handful of spices—and turn them into little patties that are crisp on the outside and tender within. The oats soak briefly in hot water, softening just enough to bind the grated carrots without needing eggs or complicated techniques. Smoked paprika and garlic powder bring a gentle depth and warmth, while salt and black pepper keep the flavour balanced and familiar. When you shape the mixture into patties and coat them in breadcrumbs, they begin to look like something you might find in a cosy café rather than a home kitchen. A calm fry over low heat gives the patties their golden crust, allowing the inside to cook through without burning the outside. Placing them on paper towels afterwards removes excess oil, leaving them pleasantly crisp rather than greasy. These patties work beautifully as a snack, a side dish or even a light main when paired with a fresh salad or yoghurt dip.
